Modern California Living

La Costa Cabinets & Design, January 2019

A tall and bright space was lacking personality with dividing walls and dark cabinetry. The homeowners had clear vision - bright, white, and modern but warm and inviting. The fireplace got a concrete wash, the uppers were removed to make way for white floating shelves, and an annex space was assimilated to incorporate a home office, as well as storage for coats, dog food, and a small mudroom. The master bath was reworked to incorporate new visually interesting closet spaces.

Sophisticated Ranch House

La Costa Cabinets & Design, June 2018

Striving for elegance and sophistication for a family of five that entertains often in the great room, a backdrop of mirrors and mullions frames the chef and center of the kitchen. Fridge and  freezer towers are hidden behind panels and pantries are dressed in mirrors to help reflect light in this peppercorn stained cherry kitchen. A flush mount hood disappears into a 12" deep soffit, with the base paneled and trimmed for a classic look.  A new La Cantina wall and french doors opens up the space into the backyard and coastal views beyond.

Elegant Grey Tones

La Costa Cabinets & Design, January 2016

A tiny kitchen sequestered away, expands down the entire length of the living space, and upwards towards the soaring 18' ceilings. Stacked cabinets with frosted inserts on the top, that are up-lit at night, add drama to the modest living space that houses the kitchen, dining, and living space. Matte charcoal appliances, light pearl grey cabinets, grey stone counter top and a grey mirrored back splash are monotone in nature, and sophisticated as a backdrop for a wood furniture like island that features a white marble top.

A Vintage Inspired Kitchen Expansion

dRemodeling, March 2014

An underused patio was absorbed into this kitchen expansion to make room for a island with seating for four and an informal dining area. Bright white cabinets contrast the natural slate floor and keep the vaulted brightly lit space fresh and airy. The 100 year old four inch thick white oak slab was salvaged from a barn to become the top of the island counter top. An interesting mix of vintage and fresh design ideas and materials keep the space modern and fun for this growing family.

Transitional Mod Kitchen

La Costa Cabinets & Design, August 2016

A dated oak kitchen and dining space gets a new island layout that serves this family of four's flow. The peninsual blocked the walkway coming down the stairs, so opening up the path gives direct access to the kitchen. Two toned cabinets create depth and interest while white marble counter tops and back splash keep the space light and bright. Modern furniture fits in seamlessly with the simple cut shaker style cabinets.

1900's Kitchen and Bathroom Renovation

dRemodeling, July 2014

A 1920's Normand-style home needed renovation work for a new family that set priorities on the dated  kitchen and a rework of the master suite. A large island with seating for 6 includes plenty of prep space while flanking pantries offer generous amount of storage.

The master bath utilized the adjacent room to create a little more room for the large walk in shower and an addition provided room for the new walk-in closet. Custom cabinetry maximizes storage space and adds a dramatic focal point to the space.

Rustic Rural Master Bath Retreat

dRemodeling, October 2013

A dated but architecturally beautiful master bath was in need for some fresh modern materials. A sculptural soaking tub takes center stage situated in front of windows and skylights that let in the forested landscape. Floating features like the vanity and water closet emphasize the contemporary lines. The frame-less glass enclosure is wrapped in natural slate linear tile with round black pebbles underfoot. The spa like space brings the textures and colors of the outdoors in while keeping a modern and clean aesthetic.

Modern Industrial Master Bath

dRemodeling, April 2014

A tiny master bath breaks through the back wall into the large bedroom to create a crafted modern retreat. A reclaimed wood sliding barn door opens up onto a custom built vanity with a natural resin panel. The sole window is placed at the far end of the room, so the resin panel allows for natural light to transmit deep into the space. Black framed elements show their strong lines in the all white space, with warm wood like ceramic plank flooring and accents keeps the space feeling warm and comfortable.

Mexico Inspired Home Remodel

La Costa Cabinets & Design, January 2017

A Mexican inspired tile informed this warm transitional remodel of this family home. The blue and white pattern is the starlet of the house, shown here in the kitchen backsplash, fireplace surrounds, and master bath accent tile. New honed dark wood flooring and moody warm grey walls throughout the home sets off bright white cabinetry, countertops, and trims. A custom zinc hood and wood countertops make the kitchen feel cozy and family friendly.

Sophisticated City Master Bath

dRemodeling, July 2014

A view of the city welcomes you as you enter this third floor master bath. Timeless materials of Carrera marble and white subway tile give the space an elegant and fresh look. The storm gray custom vanity and sink anchor the end of the room, bouncing natural light off the wall to wall custom mirror. Beveled edge white subway tile adds texture and depth to the frameless glass shower enclosure, outlined in Carrera marble. A custom storage area is built into the end of the walk in shower with a marble surround and top. A truly sophisticated space for the city dwellers.

Hacienda Style Master Bath

La Costa Cabinets & Design, September 2015

Builder grade cabinets with a built in tub were cleared ot make room for His and Hers vanities with a clawfoot tub under the window. A wrought iron chandelier and sconces, twisted iron hardware, accent the soft neutral tones. A rich stain on knotty alder cabinets enhance the rustic charm of the tumbled travertine. Hand glazed Mexican tiles punctuate the backsplash and shower listelle and niches for added texture.

Modern Master Bath

dRemodeling, May 2013

Neutral warm tones were layered in this master bath to create an open comfortable space with vintage inspired lighting. The large custom vanity swapped places with the dated shower and houses plenty of storage with floating shelves above to display accessories. The new large walk-in shower lined in modern linear striation tile hosts his and her shower niches. By rearranging the bathroom completely, the master bath was able to accommodate all of the necessities, as well as expand them, while keeping an open and spacious floor plan.
